The Collaborative Workspace Records are made up of files from Basecamp. The files are divided
in the repository into three different buckets. The reasoning for this structure was to break
down the basecamp data into segments allowing for reasonable download and useability. The
entire set of data is over 60Gb, which is an unusable format for most researchers. The data was
therefore classified and stored into the three buckets above with the following logic:
- Basecamp Workspace Large Media – These are media files which are over 100MB. They
are comprised entirely of videos and PowerPoint presentations (containing embedded
videos). They are loaded into the repository as individual files and can be downloaded
one-by-one if required. Most can also be played directly on the repository website.
- Basecamp Workspace Small Media – These are the video files which are under 100MB.
They are zipped into a single file which is 3.1GB. This file can be found here..
- Basecamp Workspace Records – These are the rest of the non-media records separated in
(1) and (2). They are zipped into a single file which is 6.3GB. This file can be found here.
All the resources found in (1) and (2), at a minimum, contain a zip file which can be
downloaded. Those zip files contain the original folder path found in the original export from
Basecamp prior to separate. This will allow you to gain the original context and location of the
media files despite their separation. If needed, the entire Collaborative Workspace Records can
be rehydrated into its original format by downloading all the zip files in the Collaborative
Workspace Records project and unzipping them into the same destination folder. Note that the
different zip files may have duplicate folder names, but will each contain unique files.
CHRR Repository staff can assist with this process and/or provide the original 60Gb file through
alternative download methods if desired.
